This week (4/20) we will continue to work on Simplifying Radicals. If you forgot how to do it, refer to the videos. You have two things to do this week.
1. IXL - Algebra 1 Skill EE.1 - Get to 80% 2. joinmyquiz.com code is 121925, make sure you enter your name so you can get credit. _____________________________________________________________________________
Week of 4/13 - This week we are going to learn something new (Simplifying Radicals), you will be learning this in 9th grade. First we have to make sure we understand some prior information. I will put up a video with an explanation on Wednesday of the new stuff. Before we get to the new stuff, I need you to complete some review. So please watch the two videos and complete these two IXLs before Wednesday.
Watch this video first...…. Prime or Composite 8th Grade IXL A.3 Prime or Composite - Get to 80%
Prime Numbers have only two factors (1 and themselves) Composite Numbers are numbers that have more factors than 1 and themselves.
Example - 7 is prime because the only factors of seven are 1 and 7. Same for 2, 3, 5, 11, 13 - the only things you can multiply to make those numbers are 1 and the number.
Example - 4 would be a composite number - because the factors of four are 1, 2, and 4. 6 would be composite, the factors of 6 are 1, 2, 3, & 6.
Watch this video first..... Prime Factorization 8th Grade IXL A.4 Prime Factorization - Get to 80%
Prime Factorization is when you take a number and break it down to its prime factors. Make sure you use exponents when you can.
In order to do the new stuff, you have to know how to do these two IXLS. So work on the IXLs and read the information if you miss the questions, figure it out. All you really need to know is your times tables, so most of you should be ok.
Wednesday Work...…I emailed this to you or use the links below. Watch these videos on how to simplify a radical. Each one is very short but they do a great job explaining how to do it. As you're watching the video, write down the examples on your notebook paper and do the example with the video, just like you would in math class. You should not use a calculator for this, this should all be done on paper.
After you watch all the videos (don't skip that part, you won't know what to do) then I want you to take this short quiz on www.thatquiz.orgH7L8EX7H
We are going to continue to work on this next week, so don't freak out if you don't get it right away, but if you watch the videos, you should get a good understanding of how to do it.
If you have any questions, please email me. I will be happy to talk you through it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Math Work for 8th Grade On - Level (week of 3/30 - 4/03)
Monday - Convert decimals and fractions (Algebra 1 IXL A.4 - get to 80%) Decimal to Fraction - Read it - use place value, Write it (write what you just read), Reduce it (reduce your fraction - use your calculator) Example .08 reads eight hundredths so you write 8/100 and then reduce that to 2/25. Fraction to Decimal - divide it, if it is a mixed number then convert to an improper fraction (check method) then divide it.
Tuesday - Compare and Order Rational Numbers (Algebra 1 IXL A.1 - get to 80%) remember negatives are always smaller than any positive & convert your fractions to decimals - it is easier to compare.
Wednesday - Sort Rational and Irrational Numbers (Algebra 1 IXL Skills A.8 and A.9 - get to 80%) Remember irrational numbers include Pi and any nonperfect square root
Thursday - Day off from Math
Friday - Quiz on Rational or Irrational Numbers www.thatquiz.org 1AAWi7H2
Hope you guys have a great spring break - hopefully I will see you all real soon!
